Prep for winter run

Originally posted to deafferret on 2016-12-14.

September through December I’ve been living in the Omaha house, with the RV winterized, parked in the driveway.

The plan is to head south for ~10 weeks starting ~January 2. There’s scuba diving to be done in the Florida Keys, I figure. Hopefully lots of dirt biking too.

Adventure 1: During the summer run to British Columbia and back, the RV’s fresh water tank bowed within 4" of dragging on the ground. Holy crap! My dealership in Iowa did a great job taking care of that for me, transporting it all the way back to the factory in Indiana, where the entire tank was re-structured and now looks rock solid for years to come. (Lots of square aluminum tubing reinfocement.)

Adventure 2: The unit shipped without winterization plumbing, which surprised me. Two failed attempts to plumb it myself, then my dealership plumbed it for me. (I could barely jam my shoulders and massive pectoral muscles into the work area.) So now I have a 3-way valve, should be easy to winterize myself from now on. :)

Chat interaction today:

evaddnomaid: Where are you “camping” for the moment? You in Nebr?
deafferret: ya, Omaha. Heading south Jan 2 for ~3 mos
evaddnomaid: How’s the mobile domicile holding up in the cold? (does she (he?) have a name, btw?)
deafferret: The USS Hannah is winterized, sitting in the driveway of (now my brother’s) house here in Omaha. She appreciates your concern regarding her gender identity. :)
evaddnomaid: LOL So it is Miss Hannah not Mx. Hannah? Good to know!
deafferret: It’s unclear how seriously she takes our relationship status given her abandonment ½ the year
evaddnomaid: My aunt and uncle lived in an RV for a winter not far from Kearney, Nebraska as they remodeled an old farm house… they had constant trouble with freezing plumbing. lol
deafferret: woof, ya. Trying to live in it below freezing sounds like a bad idea
evaddnomaid: oh! so you are not occupying the Hannah right now? Living under a conventional roof? Got it.
deafferret: indeed
